PRESCOTT, Ariz. – After defeating Vanguard (Calif.), the Southern Oregon men's wrestling team was stopped just short of upsetting No. 15 Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) in dual action Saturday at Eagle Gym.

The Raiders won 27-12 in the opener, taking the last 15 points of the dual against the Lions in the neutral-site matchup. They turned around a couple hours later to push the host Eagles to the brink in a 21-19 loss as the teams split their 10 matches.

Four wrestlers notched two wins apiece for the Raiders, whose record went to 8-3: Evan Potter (125 pounds) recorded a technical fall and a pin, Aaron Gandara (149) a pair of decisions, Kabb Christensen (184) a forfeit victory and a major decision, and Antonio Garcia (285) a pin and a decision.

Tied 12-12 against Vanguard, Christensen's win by forfeit put the Raiders ahead and 24th-ranked Andrew Herrera's 8-3 decision over Isaiah Hernandez clinched the victory at 197. Garcia finished it off by pinning Ryan Ortiz in the second round. Earlier, the Raiders had gone ahead thanks to Potter's 17-1 win over Zack Stone, Gandara's 9-4 win over Bryan Avila, and Dylan Straley's 10-0 major decision over Ruben Rodriguez.

The Raiders and ERAU were tied 9-9 before seventh-ranked Beau Blackham (157) and fourth-ranked Keller Rock (165) gave the Eagles a nine-point lead with consecutive wins by decision and fall. After 11th-ranked Alex Hernandez's decision at 174 and Christensen's major decision at 184 pulled the Raiders within two, ERAU's 20th-ranked Brodie Scott (197) kept his team in front by holding on for a 3-2 decision against Herrera.

Potter, ranked No. 2 in the NAIA at 133, and Gandara, ranked No. 6 at 149, both kept their perfect dual records intact. Potter went to 10-0 and Gandara to 9-0.

The Raiders are off until Jan. 26, when they'll return home to face No. 8 Providence (Mont.).
