Graves scores 28 as SOU cruises past Warner Pac

ASHLAND – Another convincing win against one of the Cascade Conference's top teams got the Southern Oregon men's basketball team back on track Friday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

The Raiders overpowered third-place Warner Pacific in an 83-70 decision, riding senior guard Will Graves' career-high 28 points to go up by as many as 20 midway through the second half.

They upped their record to 13-8 overall and 9-6 in the CCC, remaining in fifth place but moving a game back of third. Aside from dropping both matchups against top-ranked College of Idaho, they've gone 4-1 against the other teams ahead of them in the standings.

SOU has won 16 consecutive regular-season meetings with the Knights, who fell to 13-7 and 10-5. The Raiders held their high-scoring guards, Thomas Miles, Isaac Etter and Dakota Reber, to 15-of-39 combined shooting. Miles led the trio with 19 points.

Graves gave the Raiders the backcourt edge, doing his damage in just 25 minutes of work by shooting 6-of-13 from three. He totaled 18 points in the first half and also had seven rebounds and three steals.

Junior forward Dominic McGarvey turned in a well-rounded performance with 16 points on 6-of-11 shooting, seven rebounds and two blocked shots. Josh Meyer scored 11 with game-highs of eight rebounds and six assists, and Atmar Mundu scored in double figures for the 26th consecutive game with 12.

The Raiders built a 42-35 halftime lead before shooting 57 percent in the second frame. Up by four with 16 minutes left, Graves connected on a 3 that started an 11-2 run. Tez Allen, who distributed five assists, found McGarvey for a dunk in transition that made it 70-50 at the nine-minute mark.

The Raiders have won nine consecutive games in which they've scored at least 80 points.

They'll complete their five-game homestand at 5 p.m. Saturday against Multnomah, which enters in sixth place with a 7-8 conference record.
