GREAT FALLS, Mont. – Southern Oregon freshman
Iniana Hammond turned in the team's first three-assist game in 19 years as part of a 4-0 offensive outburst against Providence (Mont.) on Friday at Argo Field.
Mia Ammons converted two of Hammond's passes,
Kaylah Bresee scored the other, and
Malaika Quigley added a last-minute penalty kick to make the Raiders 6-4-3 overall and 3-1-3 in the Cascade Conference. They stand in fifth place entering Saturday's 3 p.m. PDT matchup at second-place Carroll (Mont.).
Hammond, an Ashland High product, didn't have a collegiate assist to her name until meeting the Argos (2-9-1, 1-6-1). She accomplished a feat no other play had since SOU's all-time assist leader, Lisa Howard, recorded four on Sept. 17, 2004.
She set up Bresee for the go-ahead score in the 16th minute with a pinpoint pass from near the sideline that went through the defense and led Bresee into the box with only a keeper in front of her.
The goal was Bresee's third of the season, and Ammons reached the same total with her goals in the 50th and 58th minutes. Quigley's was her seventh overall and fifth in CCC play.
Ashlynn Hernandez made four saves to complete her sixth shutout.
Dating back to last season, the Raiders are unbeaten in 17 of their last 18 conference games.
