HELENA, Mont. –
Abby McKean put Southern Oregon ahead late but Carroll (Mont.) answered minutes later to force a 1-1 draw in a Cascade Conference game Saturday at Nelson Stadium.
McKean, a freshman forward, scored her first career goal in the 65th minute after
Malaika Quigley's pass bounced across the box and found her staring at an open net. In the 72nd, Saints forward Deanna Lord equalized unassisted.
The Raiders went to 6-4-4 overall and 3-1-4 in the Cascade Conference, sitting in fifth place with four games left to play before the postseason. They've now tied more games than in any other season in program history, a byproduct of the rule installed last year that wiped out overtime in the regular season.
They got another stellar performance from junior goalkeeper
Ashlynn Hernandez, who made four of her five saves in the second half.
The second-place Saints (9-1-3, 6-1-2) threatened to take the lead just before the final whistle, when Natalie Brown's shot hit the crossbar.
The Raiders are unbeaten against Carroll in their last four matchups. The latest point was a major blow to the titles hopes of the Saints, who stand four points behind first-place College of Idaho with one more game played.
The Raiders have dropped just one of their last 19 CCC contests going back to last season.
They return home to face Oregon Tech at 6:30 p.m. Friday.
