ASHLAND – The No. 16-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team had considerably fewer problems with Multnomah the second time around the Cascade Conference schedule, sweeping 25-16, 25-14, 25-10 on Saturday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
After going five sets with the Lions (3-13 overall, 3-13 CCC) in their first meeting, the Raiders (18-5, 12-4) were in and out in an hour on the strength of another comically dominant performance from
Hannah Stadstad. The junior right-side hitter turned 20 swings in 15 kills to hit .700, a night after going for 16 kills on 23 attempts in a straight-set win over Warner Pacific.
Marin Mackey was sharp again with nine kills and two service aces, and
Megan Perry delivered eight kills on 14 attacks to go with four blocks. Mackey,
Trinity Atuatasi and
Kayla Neidigh corralled 12 digs apiece, shrinking the Lions to a .079 attacking average.
Sadie Byrd aided that cause with five blocks. She also had seven kills as part of a .410 attack.
SOU hit .400-plus on back-to-back nights for the first time this season, and Stadstad stole the show again. She's in the midst of a 10-match stretch in which she has hit at an eye-popping .458 average, raising her league-leading season average to .363. She was hitting .271 before the stretch.
Stadstad has benefited from the good work of her setter, who continued to produce Saturday –
Annie Hite with 18 assists and seven digs, and
Vitoria Mattos with 16 assists.
Lauren Porter had 15 digs for the Lions, who got a team-high eight kills from Maya Blake.
