SOU sweeps Geoducks for 22nd victory

ASHLAND – Southern Oregon swept its fifth straight match and ran its winning streak to seven with a 25-22, 25-6, 25-21 defeat of Evergreen (Wash.) in Cascade Conference play Friday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

The No. 16-ranked Raiders (22-5 overall, 15-4 CCC) nudged the Geoducks (3-20, 3-16) to 23 attacking errors compared to just 25 kills. Kayla Neidigh's 18 digs and Ani Farmer's five assisted blocks spurred the stellar defensive effort.

Hannah Stadstad went for a team-high 12 kills as part of a .236 attack, and Sadie Byrd recorded eight kills with only one error to go with three blocks. Farmer chipped in four kills on six attempts without an error.

The Geoducks pushed SOU in the first and third sets, but their second-set point total was the lowest for a Raider opponent all season. They got nine kills and four blocks from Marin Collins.

Carol Melo added eight kills and Annie Hite finished with 19 assists and seven digs for the Raiders, who have completed 16 of their 22 victories in straight sets.

They now have a two-win cushion in third place over College of Idaho, which lost in five sets Friday to Corban. They play their final home match of the season at 7 p.m. Saturday against Northwest (Wash.), which also entered the night two wins back of SOU.
