Clutch saves by Hernandez preserve tie

A pair of leaping saves by junior keeper Ashlynn Hernandez helped the Southern Oregon women salvage a 1-1 tie against Rocky Mountain today at Raider Stadium.

The Raiders are now 5-4-3 overall and 2-1-3 in conference play. Rocky Mountain is now 2-6-1 overall and 1-4-1 in league action.

With the match tied at 1-1 at the 74 minute mark, Hernandez tipped a wide open shot by Rocky's Emma Lensing over the crossbar. Seven minutes later, it was Hernandez with a leaping save again, this one off a shot by Rocky's Halle Labert.

Rocky goalie Hannah Trumbull turned away a header by SOU's Brooklyn Hayes with a minute to play.

Senior Malaika Quigley's header at the 39 minute mark came off a perfectly placed free kick from senior Sophia Connell to give the Raiders a 1-0 lead. The goal marked Quigley's sixth scoring effort of the season.

Rocky's Tara Appleby responded in the second half, tying the match at 1-1 by burying a penalty kick into the left side of the goal at the 56 minute mark.
