COMPLETE NAIA CHAMPIONSHIPS RESULTS
VANCOUVER, Wash. –
Alejandra Lopez and
Lauren Forster became All-Americans while boosting the Southern Oregon women's cross country team to eighth place in the NAIA Championships on Friday morning at Fort Vancouver Park.
Lopez, a senior, placed 33rd of 334 runners in 22 minutes 28.1 seconds on the 6,000-meter course. Forster, a junior, was 38th in 22:30.4. They became the first All-Americans for SOU's women since 2018 after placing 83rd and 55th respectively a season ago. The team finish was the Raiders' best since that same year, when they established the program benchmark at fourth in the standings.
The Raiders have finished among the top-10 four of their last five seasons. This time around, they were among a crowd of teams well behind College of Idaho, which ran away with the team title by putting four individuals among the first seven finishers. The Yotes accumulated 68 points compared to 92 for second-place The Master's (Calif.).
Behind Lopez and Forster, SOU's other scorers were freshman
Alyssa Johnson in 81st place (23:24.1), junior
Cammeo Ramirez in 100th (23:35.0) and senior
Haylee Brodahl in 151st (24:06.1). Junior
Sarah Mauk was just four seconds behind Brodahl in 160th.
Racing without the rest of their teammates,
Mason Weisgerber and
Frankie Maciel finished strong for the Raider men after qualifying individually with All-Cascade Conference honors.
Weisgerber took 51st of 331 in 25:50.2, placing higher than any Raider freshman at the race in at least 15 years. Maciel, a senior, completed the 8K in 26:15.6 for 99th place, marking a 51-spot improvement over his debut at the national meet last season.
Milligan (Tenn.) won the men's team title.
