COMPLETE ALL-FRONTIER TEAMS
ASHLAND – Southern Oregon has its first ever Frontier Conference Defensive Player of the Year in
Noah Turnbull, who headlined the Raiders' representation on the All-FC lists released Monday by the league office.
Turnbull, a senior defensive end from Bend, was accompanied on the first team by sophomore safety
Spencer Kuffel and senior running back
Avery McCuaig. Tight end
Jackson Clemmer, receiver
Sawyer Cleveland, cornerback
DeShawn Craig and right tackle
Braden Reed made the second team.
A long list of Raiders received honorable mention: on defense, linemen
Taye Courtney and
Adonis Jackson, linebackers
Ty Glumbik and
Iona Purcell, and backs
Seth Miller and
Marve Nyembo; on offense, linemen
Brock Duyck,
Hunter Geissler and
Duncan Hicks; and on special teams, kicker
Brian Batres.
The group led the Raiders to a 6-4 record and wins in five of their final six games, a run capped by their 31-16 upset of No. 5-ranked College of Idaho.
In Frontier play, where the Raiders went 5-3, they led the circuit in both points allowed (17.6) and yards allowed (286.3) per game. Turnbull had a big hand in those numbers with league-leading totals of 13 tackles for losses and nine sacks, ranking seventh nationally in the latter category.
SOU's other first-team members also posted Frontier-leading numbers – Kuffel in interceptions (6) and interception returns for touchdowns (2), and McCuaig in rushing TDs (14) and rushing yards per game (76.9).
On the second team, Clemmer collected eight reception TDs – including four in SOU's last two games – and Cleveland led the Raiders in receptions (40) and reception yardage (527) while making three TD catches. Reed – along with his honorable-mention teammates on the line – helped SOU average 4.5 yards per rush and limit its opponents to 11 total sacks. Craig, a repeat member of the second team, had one interception and was part of a unit that held opponents under 180 passing yards per game.
Several Raider defenders had strong cases to be elevated from honorable mention status. Miller's was the strongest: the senior safety had four interceptions, second only to Kuffel on the FC leaderboard, and led SOU in pass break-ups (8) while ranking second on the team in tackles (43).
Glumbik came back from injury to register 28 tackles over six games, and Courtney and Nyembo wrapped their careers with 20 and 21 tackles respectively. Jackson and Purcell, both freshmen, broke into the starting lineup and stuck: Jackson recorded all five of his sacks over his last six games, and Purcell finished as the team's leader in tackles with 49.
Batres stepped into the kicker role and made 9-of-11 field-goal attempts with a long of 48 yards and his only misses from 40-plus. He also converted 36-of-37 extra-point tries.
Rayden Kaneshiro was named SOU's Champion of Character.
