KIRKLAND, Wash. – The Southern Oregon men's basketball team is 4-0 in the Cascade Conference for the first time in eight years after defeating Northwest (Wash.) 67-56 on Saturday at Brodin Pavilion.
Another balanced night offensively, which saw five Raiders score in double figures, complemented a defensive effort that forced 22 turnovers and nudged the Eagles to sub-40-percent shooting. They never trailed and built a 32-18 lead by halftime while watching NU go 6-of-24 from the field.
Teron Bradford and
Mason Whittaker scored 13 points apiece.
Cole McAninch and
Dominic McGarvey both had 12 and
Khalil Chatman went for 11 points, seven rebounds, four assists and two steals for the Raiders, whose 25-12 edge in points off turnovers was the difference.
For the first time since the 2004-05 season, they have held three consecutive CCC opponents under 60 points. They stand at 6-4 overall entering Wednesday's 7:30 p.m. matchup in Ashland against No. 24-ranked Oregon Tech, which will come in with a 3-1 conference record.
The Eagles dipped to 2-8 overall and 1-4 in the CCC. They went down by as many as 18 points after Bradford and McGarvey hit back-to-back 3-pointers a few minutes into the second half. They got a team-high 18 points from Manuel Zapater but were doomed by a 1-of-15 display from 3.
SOU and Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) are the only remaining unbeaten teams in CCC play, though four others have one loss apiece. Starting with the OIT matchup, the Raiders play five of their next seven games at home.
