KIRKLAND, Wash. – After trailing by two at halftime, No. 20-ranked Southern Oregon opened the third quarter on a 22-1 run en route to a 67-51 win against Northwest (Wash.) on Saturday afternoon at Brodin Pavilion.
Meghan McIntyre had 10 points and three steals during the run and finished with 21 points, seven steals, four rebounds and three assists for the Raiders (8-2 overall, 4-0 Cascade Conference). The Eagles (1-9, 1-4) were nine minutes into the third before getting their first and only bucket of the quarter.
Both of SOU's starting forwards,
Clara Robbins (11 points, 9 rebounds, 2 blocks) and
Kami Walk (10 points, 8 rebounds, 2 steals), were just shy of double-doubles.
Sierra Scheppele supplied a spark off the bench by becoming the first Raider this season to hit five 3-pointers, pouring in 15 points.
McIntyre scored in double figures for the eighth consecutive game and shot 8-of-18 from the field. Her steal total was the highest for a Raider this season; she has come up with multiple in all but two of her 10 outings.
The Eagles took a 29-27 lead in the second in large part by pulling down nine offensive rebounds in the quarter, which they turned into 10 second-chance points. They were limited to four offensive boards after halftime, rendering them unable to atone for a 23-percent clip from the field.
The Raiders turned their defense into offense, amassing a 30-9 advantage in points off turnovers. They forced the Eagles to commit 18 of them.
The win set up a pivotal showdown at 5:30 p.m. Wednesday inside Lithia Motors Pavilion between the last remaining unbeaten teams in CCC play: SOU and Oregon Tech. Lewis-Clark State (Idaho), ranked No. 7 in this week's NAIA Top 25 poll, took its first conference loss at home Saturday against Bushnell.
