ATHERTON, Calif. – A
Kami Walk 3-pointer with 67 seconds left broke a tie and went down as the final bucket in No. 21-ranked Southern Oregon's 71-68 win against Menlo (Calif.) in nonleague action Friday evening at Haynes-Prim Pavilion.
The Raiders improved to 6-1 when Oaks guard Jordyn Rosette's 3-point try for the tie rimmed off and fell to Walk as the buzzer sounded. Walk, a senior forward, finished with team-highs of 21 points and six rebounds, scoring 13 in the second half.
On the possession before her game-winner, Rosette pulled the Oaks (4-4) even for the first time in the fourth quarter with a 3 of her own. They led by as many as five points in the third before SOU staged a 10-0 run, keyed by a pair of
Izzy Hernandez triples.
Sierra Scheppele's 3 before the third-quarter buzzer put the Raiders up 58-52.
Hernandez and Scheppele led the Raiders to a 25-10 in points off the bench – the former with seven points and five rebounds, and the latter with 13 points on 5-of-8 shooting and three 3-pointers.
Walk hit the 20-point mark for the second time in three games.
Meghan McIntyre contributed 14 points and five boards, and her work from the point-guard spot helped limit SOU's turnover total to seven, a new season low.
Kiara Brown scored 21 on 10-of-16 shooting for the Oaks, whose meeting with SOU was likely their last before they depart for the NCAA Division II level next season.
The Raiders play their final nonleague game 2 p.m. Saturday at Jessup (Calif.), another DII-bound program with a 6-1 record.
