ASHLAND – Six bonus-point victories and two forfeits made the No. 20-ranked Southern Oregon men's wrestling team a 45-9 winner over Linfield on Saturday evening at Bob Riehm Arena.
Alex Hernandez,
John White and
Andrew Herrera put an exclamation mark on the blowout with back-to-back-to-back pins. The Wildcats got their only points from Max Vander Meide, who accepted a forfeit at 133 pounds, and No. 14-ranked heavyweight Jacob Barnes, who was tested by freshman
Sebastian Echeverria in a 16-12 decision.
Otherwise, it was all Raiders.
Vonn Fenn (125 pounds),
Anthony Perez (141) and No. 21
Dylan Straley (157) opened with consecutive technical falls, outscoring Shoaib Amanzad, Sean Craven and Jakob Jarvis 52-1 combined.
Hernandez, ranked No. 8 at 174, was on his way to a technical fall before pinning Ethan Ensrud with 31 seconds left in their match, and was the No. 16-ranked Herrera (197) before pinning Divenson Willis midway through the second period. White (184) needed just 1:07 to defeat Darrius Walker by fall.
The Raiders' perfect home-opening weekend made them 3-1 in dual action. They'll compete Dec. 17 at the Reno Tournament of Champions before a three-week holiday break.
