KIRKLAND, Wash. –
Kami Walk scored her 1,000th career point and the No. 25-ranked Southern Oregon women's basketball team padded its third-place lead in the Cascade Conference standings with a fifth consecutive win, 74-64 against Northwest (Wash.) on Friday night at Kristi Brodin Pavilion.
Walk, a junior forward, registered her fourth double-double in five games with 18 points, 10 rebounds and five assists, and in the process became the 20th member of SOU's 1,000-point club. The Raiders (18-5 overall, 14-3 CCC) were comfortably ahead throughout, building a 20-point lead through the first three quarters.
With five regular-season games left to play, they're two up on fourth-place Bushnell, which lost more ground Friday with a loss at Lewis-Clark State (Idaho). LCSC and Eastern Oregon remained tied for first with matching 16-1 records.
SOU completed a series sweep of the Eagles (6-15, 4-12) for the second year in a row. Three more Raiders joined Walk in double figures:
Emma Schmerbach (13 points, 9 rebounds, 2 steals),
Kalei Iwami (13 points) and
Brianna Phiakhamngon (10 points, 4 assists, 3 steals).
Iwami shot 3-of-7 from 3-point range. Phiakhamngon, Walk and
Yasmine Ahllamara made two 3-pointers apiece.
Maya Duchesne scored 21 for Northwest.
The Raiders will visit Evergreen (Wash.) at 3 p.m. Saturday.
