ASHLAND – Fourteen different Raiders cracked the hit column while
Cayla Williams and
Katie Machado twirled back-to-back shutouts as No. 5 Southern Oregon pounded Corban, 10-0 and 15-0 in five innings each Thursday at University Field.
The Raiders (22-6 overall, 12-3 Cascade Conference) were active early, combining for 23 runs in the first three innings of both games to bounce back from Wednesday's sweep at the hands of No. 1 Oregon Tech. They showcased their speed, too, with 10 of their 26 hits not even leaving the infield.
Deja Acosta and
Faith Moultrie had four hits and three runs scored apiece on the day.
Riley Donovan lifted her eighth home run of the season, a two-run shot to start the Game 2 rout, and scored four times. She and
Lindsey Stripling both notched three RBIs.
Williams got the Game 1 start and threw a two-hitter to improve to 10-3. She struck out three and walked one.
In Game 2, Machado went to 10-2 with a season-high eight strikeouts and no walks. The shutout was her fifth. She gave up three hits; Corban didn't have one for extra bases all afternoon.
The Warriors fell to 7-23 overall and 5-14 in the CCC. Dating back to 2019, they've dropped 14 consecutive matchups against SOU.
The teams will play two more on Friday, a CCC counter at 11 a.m. followed by a nonleague affair.
