Headlines: Southern Oregon head coach
Jenni Rosenberg's youngest roster ever responded emphatically to concerns of inexperience during its first week of play, outscoring three opponents 6-0 combined and getting four of its goals from true freshmen. The Raiders have logged shutouts in 12 of their last 13 games dating back to last fall – the latest a 1-0 upset of No. 9-ranked Embry-Riddle (Ariz.) that marked their first win over a top-10 opponent since 2001.
Ashlynn Hernandez was voted the Cascade Conference Defensive Player of the Week for recording a career-high nine saves in the effort. The preseason continues this week in Southern California at Hope International and Vanguard, which were picked to finish second and fourth, respectively, in the Golden State Athletic Conference. SOU won't be home until its ninth game on Sept. 22.

Headlines: After a sharp preseason in which they won 22 of 26 sets, the Raiders will not get the luxury of easing into their Cascade Conference schedule. It starts with what has consistently been the most trying trip of all, though they didn't make it last year due to COVID-19 protocols within the program. College of Idaho has endured a rare two-year postseason drought and struggled against tough competition in the preseason, but was picked fourth in the CCC preseason poll. Eastern Oregon appeared in last year's national semifinals, has already notched three Top 25 wins and could very well own the NAIA's No. 1 ranking when new poll is released Wednesday. Meanwhile, the Raiders are getting the production they expected from some highly-touted newcomers, namely junior hitters
Marin Mackey (3.1 kills per set, .285 average) and
Megan Perry (3.1 kills per set, .323 average). They've started 2-0 in conference play each of the last four seasons.

Headlines: The
Berk Brown era begins in earnest with Southern Oregon's first of two matchups against College of Idaho, this one a non-conference counter at Simplot Stadium. The Yotes are the four-time defending Frontier Conference champions, having won 33 of their last 39 games since mid-2018, and are favored to win the title again with the NAIA's No. 12 ranking. They got a head start last week with a 37-7 thumping of Lincoln University (Calif.) and will seek their eighth consecutive win in the head-to-head series against SOU. The Raiders, picked to finish seventh in the Frontier and coming off back-to-back 3-7 seasons, have 61 returning players with an almost entirely new coaching staff. The last time Brown was on the sidelines at SOU was as defensive coordinator in the 2015 national championship game. A complete game preview will be published later this week.
RAIDER MEN'S SOCCER (2-0-0)
8 p.m. Saturday – at Arizona Christian (2-0-0) | Stream | Stats
10:30 a.m. Monday – at Ottawa (Ariz.) (2-0-1) | Stream | Stats
Headlines: Two stiff tests await the Raiders when they visit the Southwest to face a pair of unbeaten teams from the Golden State Athletic Conference. ACU was picked to finish fourth in the circuit and Ottawa was picked second after combining for 22 wins and seven draws a year ago; neither team has ever faced SOU. The Raiders, who were just outside of the NAIA Top 25 preseason poll, are off to a perfect start and allowed just four on-target shots while getting goal involvements from seven different individuals over their first two outings against Linfield and Embry-Riddle. Dating back to last season, they're unbeaten in eight consecutive games and 14 of their last 15.
