Stadstad, Zimmermann fuel Raiders in road win over Yotes

CALDWELL, Idaho – Career-best nights from Hannah Stadstad and Tessa Zimmermann pushed the No. 19-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team over the top in four sets against College of Idaho on Friday night at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

The Raiders won their Cascade Conference opener for the fifth consecutive season, dropping the Yotes 25-22, 25-21, 22-25, 25-23. Stadstad, a junior right-side hitter, smacked 14 kills in the process, the highest single-match total she's ever posted by a margin of four. She attacked .346 on 26 attempts.

Her strong work was accompanied by a breakout performance from Zimmermann, SOU's freshman middle from Albany. She had season-highs of 11 kills – without an error on 20 attacks – and nine blocks. The outing raised her season attacking clip to a team-best .426.

SOU took its record to 8-1 overall entering Saturday's 5 p.m. match at top-ranked Eastern Oregon, which started CCC play by sweeping Oregon Tech. College of Idaho stumbled to 2-7.

A first-set flurry put the Raiders in front for good. They trailed 18-17 before flipping the momentum with five straight points, a run Stadstad started with a block and Zimmermann prolonged by assisting three blocks.

Stadstad had seven of her kills in the second set, helping the Raiders climb out of a 17-10 hole as they finished on a 15-4 run. Zimmermann did her part with three kills and three blocks in the frame.

After dropping the third, Stadstad ended the match by breaking a 23-23 tie with back-to-back kills in the fourth.

Megan Perry contributed 12 kills on 24 swings and Marin Mackey had eight. Perry also assisted four blocks, and four different Raiders logged double-figure dig totals: Trinity Atuatasi (18), Kayla Neidigh (18), Vitoria Mattos (13) and Mackey (10). Mattos (23 assists) and Annie Hite (20 assists, 8 digs) helped the team to a .248 attack average.

Jade Warren's 14 kills led College of Idaho.
