COMPLETE RACE RESULTS

McKINLEYVILLE, Calif. – The No. 9-ranked Southern Oregon women's cross country team was shorthanded but didn't look it while winning the Jim Hunt Humboldt Invitational, its season-opening race Saturday morning at Beau Pre Golf Course.

Runner-up Alejandra Lopez led five top-11 placers for the Raiders, and she was the only one of their top-four returning runners on the course as they cruised anyway with 30 points to second-place Cal Poly Humboldt's 51.

The No. 12-ranked SOU men finished second in the team standings with 37 points, three behind Humboldt. Senior Frankie Maciel placed third and freshman Mason Weisger was fourth in the 51-person field.

Lopez, a senior who was an All-Cascade Conference performer last season, completed the 6,000-meter women's race in 23 minutes 22.4 seconds – finishing one-tenth of a second behind winner Reese Sion of Humboldt. Every other scorer was debuting for the Raiders: freshman Alyssa Johnson in fourth place (23:44.1); junior Cammeo Ramirez, last year's Northwest Athletic Conference champion at Lane C.C., in seventh (24:01.9); junior Sarah Mauk in ninth (24:23.0); and freshman Mercedes Harms in 11th (24:34.9).

Maciel, an all-conference finisher for the SOU men's CCC championship team last year, finished the men's 8K race in 25:34.8. Weisgerber, a freshman from Wilsonville High, was right behind him in 25:38.2. Junior transfer Jalen Griego placed seventh (26:05.2), All-CCC sophomore Logan Jones was 10th (26:19.5) and the Raiders' final scorer, Asher Tatsumi, placed 20th (26:58.8).

The meet was the Raiders' first of four in the regular season. They'll run again next Saturday in Rocklin, Calif., at the Jessup Invitational.
