PORTLAND –
Malaika Quigley scored twice to end the Southern Oregon women's soccer team's winless streak in a 2-0 decision over Multnomah on Saturday afternoon at Williford Field.
Quigley, a senior midfielder from Vancouver, Wash., registered her second brace of the season and brought her career goals total to 10 by striking in the 26 seconds before halftime and in the 53rd minute. She delivered the first on a penalty kick, and
Payton Puppe-Wotipka hooked her up for the second.
The Raiders improved to 4-3-1 overall and ended the first weekend of Cascade Conference play at 1-0-1. The win was their first since starting the year with three in a row.
Their back line limited the Lions (3-4-1, 1-1-0) – fresh off Friday's upset of Oregon Tech – to five total shots. Four of them went on target, but
Ashlynn Hernandez was there to preserve her fourth shutout.
Quigley accounted for three of SOU's five shots on goal.
Cora Thorndike and
Frida Vargas had the others. The assist for Puppe-Wotipka, a freshman, marked the first point of her career.
The Raiders have still yet to surrender a goal to Multnomah in five all-time meetings.
They're home for the first time next week, facing Corban on Friday and Bushnell on Saturday.
