ASHLAND –
Malaika Quigley's 62nd-minute equalizer saved a 1-1 draw for the Southern Oregon women's soccer team in its home debut against Corban on Friday afternoon at Raider Stadium.
Trailing 1-0 and with little going their way, the Raiders got a free kick that
Miller Bertani took near midfield and directed to Quigley, aligned with the right post in the box. With a defender on her left hip, she drove toward the end line and bounced a diagonal shot just inside the left post, sneaking it past Warriors keeper Makida Herbert.
The tie made the Raiders 4-3-2 overall and 1-0-2 in the Cascade Conference, and it kept them unbeaten over their last 11 games in Ashland dating back to the 2021 season. The Warriors moved to 3-2-3 and 1-0-2.
The Warriors generated 16 shots but put just three on goal. They took the lead on the longest of those midway through the first half.
In the 23rd minute, SOU keeper
Ashlynn Hernandez's miskick landed in the control of Corban forward Kelli Huskic. With Hernandez still drawn out, Huskic lofted a 37-yard attempt that went over the keeper for her second goal of the season.
Quigley's goal was her fifth of the season, marking a new career high. The senior midfielder has tallied three of those in SOU's last two games.
Herbert finished with three saves, denying Quigley on two other occasions. Hernandez had two, and dodged trouble when first-half attempts from Rylee Loewen and Alysia Alvarado bounced off the post.
SOU is home again at 2:30 p.m. Saturday against Bushnell (2-3-0, 1-1-0).
