SOU upset bid falls short in tiebreaker against No. 4 Corban

ASHLAND – Corban's presence at the net grew larger as the night went on and the No. 4-ranked Warriors came back to deny No. 17 Southern Oregon's upset bid in a 15-25, 25-15, 18-25, 25-10, 15-9 Cascade Conference decision Saturday at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

The Warriors (15-2 overall, 9-0 CCC) took over the fourth and fifth sets by amassing 11 of their 18 blocks within them. They survived a tiebreaker for the second night in a row to remain the only unbeaten team in CCC play.

Tied 8-8 in the fifth, they went up for good when Emma Bischoff put down a kill and, on the next point, teamed up with Taylor Kieser for a block. They put the match away behind two assisted blocks by Allyson Reid, who finished with 10, and two kills from Rylee Troutman.

Troutman, the reigning NAIA Attacker of the Year, totaled 21 kills a night after going for 28. She swung 123 times on the weekend.

The Raiders dropped to 14-3 overall and 7-2 in the CCC, having lost each of their matches against teams currently ranked among the top 14 in the NAIA.

Senior outside hitter Carol Melo gave them a shot with 15 kills, Marin Mackey had 11, and right-side hitters Megan Perry and Hannah Stadstad combined for 17.

The Raiders attacked at a .384 average in the sets they won and negative-.024 in the three they lost.

Kayla Neidigh collected 18 digs and Vitoria Mattos led the match with 27 assists.

SOU is in Washington next week, visiting Northwest on Friday and Evergreen on Saturday.
