CALDWELL, Idaho – A 78th-minute goal gave a battle between the Cascade Conference's only remaining unbeaten teams to College of Idaho on Friday afternoon, 1-0 over Southern Oregon at Simplot Stadium.
Goalkeeper Tom Baynard-Smith's five saves made the Yotes (6-1-1 overall, 5-0-0 CCC) the first team to shut out the Raiders (7-2-0, 3-1-0) this season. His work was rewarded when Emil Powles assisted Grant Embree for a header across the box that stood as the winner.
SOU recorded 13 shots, posting a 10-3 advantage in the first half, but couldn't convert despite putting six on goal. The Yotes only had three on target.
The Raiders have lost two of their last 15 CCC games dating back to last season, both times against C of I. They'd gone 15 consecutive conference games without being shut out.
The Yotes, picked to finish fourth in the CCC preseason poll, got some revenge for last year's 2-1 CCC Tournament loss to SOU.
The Raiders visit Eastern Oregon at 4:30 p.m. Saturday.
