LA GRANDE – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team got a needed dose of momentum in the form of a 1-0 win against rival Eastern Oregon, which entered Saturday's late-night matchup at Community Stadium unbeaten and sitting two spots out of the NAIA Top 25.
Emily Hyde, a junior transfer from Silverton, scored her first goal as a Raider unassisted in the 13th minute. Junior goalkeeper
Ashlynn Hernandez made the score stand by making eight saves, notching her fifth shutout of the season and the 18th of her career.
A night after their team-record CCC unbeaten streak was snapped by No. 17-ranked College of Idaho at 14 games, the Raiders recovered and brought their record to 5-4-2 overall and 2-1-2 in the Cascade Conference. They and the Mountaineers (4-1-4, 2-1-2) are now part of a three-way tie for fourth place in the standings.
EOU fell for just the second time in its last 12 conference outings going back to last year. The Raiders were responsible for the other loss, too.
They survived despite the Mountaineers' 13-6 shots advantage and 4-0 edge in corner kicks.
The Raiders still haven't dropped back-to-back conference games in the last three years.
They're off until hosting Rocky Mountain (Mont.) on Oct. 8. Kickoff is scheduled for 2:30 p.m.
