Scheppele heats up as SOU blows out Multnomah

ASHLAND – Junior guard Sierra Scheppele made the most of her first start with a season-high 24 points in No. 20-ranked Southern Oregon 81-64 win against Multnomah on Friday evening at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

Scheppele, a transfer from Lane C.C., shot 8-of-15 from the field and 6-of-11 from 3 as the Raiders took their record to 9-3 overall and 5-1 in the Cascade Conference. She drilled five of those 3s through the first three quarters, helping them build a lead that at one point expanded to 30 points.

Meghan McIntyre supplied 18 points and 6-of-10 shooting and six rebounds, making her the first Raider guard in six years to score in double figures 10 consecutive games.

The SOU frontcourt was equally effective in another facet of the game: Clara Robbins and Kami Walk combined for 10 offensive rebounds, helping the Raiders to 22 second-chance points. Robbins pulled down 11 total boards, hitting double digits for the 12th time in her career, and was right on her league-leading blocks average with two of them. Walk finished with eight points, nine rebounds, five assists and two blocks.

The Raiders have never lost to the Lions over nine all-time matchups in Ashland. They put the latest out of reach early, going up 19-9 after the first quarter and by 21 points by halftime. They held the CCC's leading scorer, Savannah Huerta, 11 points under her season average at nine on 3-of-18 shooting.

The Lions dropped to 4-9 overall and 1-6 in the CCC. They got 12 points from both Mia Martineau and Reya Lee, who hit four 3-pointers apiece.

The Lions shot 13-of-27 from beyond the arc but just 30 percent inside of it. They became the 12th consecutive SOU opponent to score fewer than 70 points.

SOU concludes its homestand at 3 p.m. Saturday against Warner Pacific, which will enter with a 4-3 CCC record.
