SOU falls short at Rocky, 1-0

BILLINGS, Mont. – Rocky Mountain (Mont.) keeper Hannah Trumbull kept Southern Oregon off the board with seven saves in a 1-0 Battlin' Bears victory Friday afternoon at Wendy's Field.

The lone goal came in the 15th minute, when Charlize Davis took her defender from midfield to the perimeter of the box on the right side. She crossed with a bouncer to the far post, where Mya Maack slid in and got just enough of the ball to direct it in for her first score of the season.

The Bears improved to 4-3-1 overall and 2-2-1 in the Cascade Conference, extending an impressive stretch in which they've also gotten results against circuit heavyweights Carroll (Mont.) and Eastern Oregon. The Raiders (6-5-0, 3-4-0) dropped their consecutive game.

They had their opportunities to end their drought with 15 shots. Abby McKean placed all three of hers on target. Frida Vargas had two more on goal.

Keeper Ashlynn Hernandez kept SOU in the game with six saves.

The Raiders, who were unbeaten in 12 of their last 13 CCC road games entering the day, come home next week to face Carroll on Oct. 18 and Providence (Mont.) on Oct. 19. Both contests start at noon.
