Raiders' streak ends at C of I

CALDWELL, Idaho – A night after an emotional five-set win at No. 3-ranked Eastern Oregon, No. 5 Southern Oregon was ambushed by College of Idaho in a 25-18, 25-19, 25-11 loss on Saturday at the J.A. Albertson Activities Center.

Haley McUne's 15 kills and Shelbey Nichol's 10 headed a C of I attack that the Raiders couldn't slow down as their winning streak ended at nine matches. The Yotes had the top attacking average (.314) for an SOU opponent this season, while the Raiders turned in their lowest clip (.122) in over a year.

The Raiders (18-2 overall, 12-2 Cascade Conference) were attempting to win 19 of their first 20 matches for the first time in program history. They fell a match behind first-place Corban but still control their own championship destiny: If they win out over their eight remaining regular-season matches, they'll be guaranteed no less than a co-title. They visit Corban on Oct. 26.

The Raiders won their first matchup with C of I (12-9, 8-5) a month ago in four sets. They hadn't lost to a team that finished outside of the top-10 in the rankings since 2022. This time around, though, they came out flat, accumulating 16 attacking errors compared to 28 kills and racking up seven service-reception errors.

Megan Perry led the team with eight kills and Hannah Stadstad had seven.

SOU returns home next weekend to face Lewis-Clark State (Idaho) at 7 p.m. Friday and Walla Walla (Wash.) at 8 p.m. Saturday.
