No. 12 C of I tops Raiders to stay perfect in CCC

ASHLAND – The No. 12-ranked College of Idaho women's soccer team performed as advertised in a 3-1 win over Southern Oregon on Saturday at Raider Stadium.

The Yotes (7-0-2 overall, 5-0-0 Cascade Conference) remained in first place and appeared well on their way to a successful title defense, though the Raiders (6-4-0, 3-3-0) kept the deficit at one goal until the final 12 minutes of the game.

Larissa Wegner had the go-ahead score in the 25th minute, heading in a precisely-delivered pass that Delaney Reed directed from the right side to the near post to find Wegner on the run. Reigning CCC Offensive Player of the Year Eden Makaafi struck in the 79th minute by beating her defender one-on-one, and Natasja Davis set up Alexis Eiguren for a header in the 89th.

Taytum Curtis tallied SOU's goal on a penalty kick with 29 seconds remaining. It was her second of the season.

The goal was only the third the Yotes have allowed during an 18-game conference winning streak that dates back to 2022. They've scored 66 of their own during the stretch.

Wegner's goal was her fourth of the season, Makaafi's was her sixth and Eiguren's her eighth. The Yotes generated 27 total shots and SOU keeper Ashlynn Hernandez made saves on 11 of them.

The Raiders play at Rocky Mountain (Mont.) next Friday before coming home to face Carroll (Mont.) on Oct. 18. They stand in sixth place on the CCC table.
