Raiders hold on at Simpson

REDDING, Calif. Elijah Jackson led five players in double figures with 16 points as Southern Oregon shot 54% from the field in an 81-72 win against Simpson on Tuesday night at the Grant Center.

Off the bench, the Raiders got 15 points on 7-of-9 shooting from Liam Clark, 12 points from Gio Evanson, and 11 points, eight rebounds and four assists from Bryce Dyer. They were in front for the final 36 minutes in improving to 2-0.

A 10-point SOU edge with eight minutes left was down to 67-65 with 2:25 to go, when Evanson stretched it out with a pair of free throws. He came up with a steal on Simpson's ensuing possession and passed ahead to Dyer for a dunk.

Still up six with a minute remaining, Mason Whittaker closed the door with a 3-pointer. He finished with nine points. Khalil Chatman contributed 11 and four rebounds.

The Raiders hung on despite a 5-of-23 display from 3. They shot 74% inside the arc, racking up a 46-26 advantage on points in the paint.

Timothy Parker scored 22 off the bench for Simpson (1-2), which dropped to 2-39 all-time against SOU.

The Raiders are at the Delta Marriott Classic this weekend in Helena, Mont., to face Montana State-Northern on Friday and host Carroll (Mont.) on Saturday.
