ASHLAND – Already a Cascade Conference Defensive Player of the Year and two-time all-star,
Casey Ruvolo added Academic All-American to his lengthy résumé on Tuesday when the College Sports Communicators (CSC) voted him onto the NAIA men's soccer second team.
Ruvolo, a junior goalkeeper from New River, Ariz., became the third player in Southern Oregon men's soccer history to land the honor. The economics major maintains a cumulative grade-point average of 3.64.
A total of 24 players across the NAIA were recognized by the CSC for a combination of their athletic and academic performances.
Ruvolo, after taking the conference's top defensive award and making the United Soccer Coaches All-America second team last year, was selected to the All-CCC first team again this fall. In conference matches he ranked second in both goals-allowed average (0.58) and save percentage (.800).
He posted 10 shutouts for a Raiders team that went 12-5-2 overall and finished second on the table with a 9-2-2 record. In three seasons at SOU, Ruvolo has turned in 23 clean sheets across 47 starts. His career save percentage of .787 is the best ever for a full-time SOU starter.
Ruvolo was among four Raiders named to the CSC Academic All-District team, joined by
Franco Fasoli,
Evan Norconk and
Daniel Palomino. No team in the conference had more honorees.
He joins former Raiders Paul Matyas (2017) and Wyatt Zabinski (2019) as the program's only Academic All-Americans.
