SALEM –
Simon Graeber won by fall despite wrestling up a weight class to help the No. 8-ranked Southern Oregon men's wrestling team collect a quality dual victory, 23-17 over No. 13 Corban on Saturday night at the C.E. Jeffers Center.
Graeber, ranked No. 17 nationally at 133 pounds, pinned Blake Runion at 141 with 27 seconds left in their match. It was part of a 15-0 start for the Raiders, preceded by No. 12
Vonn Fenn's marathon 13-11 decision over No. 23 Brayden Boyd's at 125 and No. 12
Dylan Clark's forfeit win at 133.
Paul Ortiz (165) and No. 9
Asher Ruchti (197) went on to add major decisions for SOU, which improved to 11-0 ahead of next Thursday's home dual against No. 15 Montana State-Northern.
The marquee matchup of the night, at 157, went to Corban's No. 2-ranked David Rubio in a 4-2 decision against No. 3
Aaron Gandara that came down to a tiebreaker. Major decisions for No. 11 Tyson Stover at 174 and No. 12 Isaiah Twait at 184 cut SOU's lead to 19-14 before Ruchti came through to clinch in the Raiders' favor.
Fenn and Ruchti remained unbeaten in dual action. Gandara's loss was his first of any kind this season.
The Raiders survived despite missing two of their highest-ranked wrestlers, No. 2
Evan Potter and No. 3
Alex Hernandez.
