LA GRANDE –
Bridgette McIntyre's first extended takeover for Southern Oregon was well timed on Saturday at Quinn Coliseum.
The No. 4-ranked Raiders were a step slow all afternoon against Eastern Oregon, falling behind by as many as 12 points in the third quarter, until McIntyre jolted them back to life for a 72-59 win. The junior guard dropped in 19 of her 25 points in the second half, where she hit all five of her 3-point attempts.
The Raiders (8-0 overall, 2-0 Cascade Conference) have stolen back-to-back CCC regular-season wins on EOU's home court after going 15 years without one. They've opened the season with eight consecutive victories, all on the road, for the first time since 2015-16.
Their streak appeared in danger when a Kali Kast 3-pointer gave the Mountaineers (4-3, 0-2) their largest lead at 42-30 a minute into the second half. But a few seconds later, McIntyre's triple started an 18-0 run fueled by 10 points from her and 11 straight defensive stops.
McIntyre hit three more 3s in the fourth quarter – the first with the score tied at 51-51, the second with the score tied at 56-56 to put SOU up for good with 5:35 left, and the third to extend the lead to five a minute later.
The 5-foot-6 guard – who transferred to SOU from Orange Coast C.C. (Calif.) a year after her sister, Meghan, did the same – shot 8-of-11 from the field and 6-of-8 from 3 overall. She now leads the league in 3-point makes (24) on a 46% clip.
SOU forwards
Morgan Baird and
Eliza DiGiulio helped open up the perimeter for McIntyre with dominant play inside. Baird had 14 points on 6-of-10 shooting, and DiGiulio went 4-of-5 to score 10 off the bench.
Meghan McIntyre contributed a career-high nine assists along with seven points and seven rebounds.
Kelsie Siegner put up a team-high 15 points for the Mountaineers. After shooting 14-of-30 before halftime, they went 6-of-27 after.
The Raiders travel to Klamath Falls next Saturday to face Oregon Tech, which swept the same road trip this weekend.
