ASHLAND – Southern Oregon ripped 27 hits and scored in every inning to notch a pair of run-rule victories over Providence (Mont.), 13-2 and 15-2 in five innings each Friday afternoon at University Field.
Jordan Henderson and
Kennedy Kila both cleared the fence,
Sarah Kerling added a third home run of the inside-the-park variety, and
Hannah Clavelle topped off a monster series by going 5-for-5 with two doubles. Clavelle, a senior third baseman, went 9-for-11 and reached base in 15 of 17 plate appearances over the four-game sweep.
The No. 10-ranked Raiders bumped their Cascade Conference record to 9-3 with the Game 1 win and their overall record to 21-8 by taking the non-conference finale. The Argos fell to 7-12 and 5-7, getting outscored 48-11 combined during the set.
Katie Machado (11-3) handled the opener, surrendering one earned run in her ninth complete game of the season. Kila picked up her first win as a Raider in Game 2 by getting SOU through the first four frames before
Katie Fodge handled the fifth.
They all pitched with plenty of breathing room. Clavelle and Henderson both went 2-for-2 with three RBIs in Game 1 – Henderson's homer, her third, was a two-run shot during SOU's six-run fifth inning – and
Kailer Fulton went 2-for-4 with two runs scored and an RBI.
Kila, after recording two hits in the opener, hit her team-leading fifth home run in Game 2 and tallied four RBIs.
Lina Sanchez and
Christina Tadvick had two hits apiece in spot starts, and both contributed to SOU's afternoon total of 11 extra-base hits. By the end of the second inning, the Raiders led 7-0.
The Raiders improved to 8-0 at home. They're back at University Field next week, hosting Bushnell in doubleheaders at 2 p.m. Thursday and 11 a.m. Friday.
