ASHLAND –
Katie Machado capped the regular season by receiving her third Cascade Conference Pitcher of the Week award on Monday after giving Southern Oregon a shot of momentum entering Friday's playoff opener in Klamath Falls.
Machado, a senior right-hander from Petaluma, Calif., outdueled two of the top-five pitchers on the NAIA's ERA leaderboard over the weekend. She earned two complete-game victories against Eastern Oregon, allowing three earned runs in the first and two in the second to give the Raiders a pair of 4-3 decisions and hand the Mountaineers their first CCC series loss of the spring.
Machado finished the regular season as the conference leader in complete games with 20. She ranked second in wins with a 19-4 record, first in saves with four, and fourth in ERA at 1.70.
She and the Raiders (34-15 overall, 20-7 CCC) will be the No. 4 seed in the six-team, three-day, double-elimination CCC Tournament after tying College of Idaho for third place in the standings. Their first matchup is at 9 a.m. Friday in against No. 5 seed British Columbia (25-20, 16-11), and if they win that game they'll play again at 2 p.m. against top-seeded host Oregon Tech.
