ASHLAND –
Skyler Coleman scored the first two goals and assisted the third as the floodgates opened for Southern Oregon in a 5-0 victory over Warner Pacific on Sunday at Raider Stadium.
The Raiders, after being shut out in Friday's Cascade Conference-opening loss to Multnomah, got their attack in order with 30 total shots and 15 on goal against the Knights. The scoreboard accurately reflected their dominance by the second half, where they scored four times to turn a tight game into a blowout.
SOU improved to 4-2 overall and 1-1 in the CCC. WPU dropped to 2-4-1 and 0-2.
A blocked shot landed at Coleman's feet in the ninth minute, allowing her to line up a centered 20-yard strike that she stuck underneath the crossbar to give the Raiders an early lead. She tallied her second goal of the afternoon and fourth of the season when
Cora Thorndike found her in the box in the 46th minute.
SOU scored twice in a span of 25 seconds during the 60th minute, getting goals from
Brooklyn Hayes and
Frida Vargas on assists from Coleman and
Abby McKean.
Ava Johnson put the cherry on top with the fourth goal of her freshman campaign in the 78th.
Ashlynn Hernandez kept the sheet clean with five saves to log her third shutout of the year.
The Raiders upped their home record to 4-1 and have now won 10 consecutive matchups with WPU in Ashland.
They travel next week to Bushnell and Corban before returning to Raider Stadium Oct. 4-5 to face Eastern Oregon and No. 13-ranked College of Idaho.
