ASHLAND – The No. 5-ranked Southern Oregon volleyball team steamrolled Northwest (Wash.) early and scraped by late to bank a 25-11, 25-12, 26-24 Cascade Conference win on Friday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
Hannah Stadstad had 15 kills on 28 swings and
Marin Mackey totaled 13 on 32 for the Raiders, who bumped their record to 13-1 overall and 7-1 in the CCC. They remained in a three-way tie with Corban and Eastern Oregon atop the standings entering Saturday's 6 p.m. match against Evergreen (Wash.).
The Raiders blistered through the first set with a .500 attacking average, committing only one error on 30 attempts, and started the second on a 12-1 run. The third was tied at 10 different points, including 24-24 after SOU lost a three-point lead, but back-to-back kills from Stadstad and
Mylena Testoni put the Eagles (7-9, 2-6) away.
SOU's defense held strong throughout, bringing NU down to a .065 attacking average and holding the Eagles to a season-low one service ace.
Sadie Byrd and
Megan Perry were busy at the net with six and four blocks, respectively, while three Raiders hit double figures in digs:
Kayla Neidigh (17), Testoni (12) and
Annie Hite (10).
Hite also distributed 21 assists and
Vitoria Mattos had 18 with six digs to lead SOU's .300 team attack. Alongside Stadstad, Perry was the team's most efficient swinger of the night with nine kills on a .500 average. Byrd hit .417 with six kills.
The sweep was the Raiders' seventh of the season. They've won four matches in a row overall.
