PORTLAND –
Morgan Baird scored 21 points, shooting 10-of-11 from the field, to help No. 4-ranked Southern Oregon beat Multnomah 95-55 on Friday night at Lytle Gym.
Emma Schmerbach went 7-of-12 with 18 points, seven rebounds and two steals for the Raiders (14-0 overall, 8-0 Cascade Conference) in their 17th consecutive road win dating back to last season. They shot 59% from the field, the team's highest clip in eight years.
Baird scored or assisted on 14 of their first 25 points and made her first nine attempts, including a 3-pointer, before her only miss early in the third quarter. The senior forward is the first Raider in nine years to post at least 10 field goals with only one miss.
Multnomah (5-10, 3-6) immediately fell behind 11-0 and cut the deficit to seven with 7:12 left in the second quarter on a 3-pointer from Gracie Browning. SOU extended the lead back to 47-33 by halftime.
The Raiders rattled off another 11-0 run to start the third, where they outscored the Lions 26-8.
Bridgette McIntyre posted 14 points – including a four-point play late in the second quarter – three rebounds, two assists, and two steals, hitting 3-of-5 from 3.
Sierra Scheppele added 11 points off the bench with three more 3-pointers.
It was the second time this season the Raiders have scored 90 points or more and their sixth occasion surpassing 80. They tied a season-high of 23 assists and recorded a season-low of five turnovers.
Makayla Torkornoo scored 23 and Ellie Robertson added 13 for the Lions.
The Raiders stay in Portland to play Warner Pacific (6-9, 3-6 CCC) at 3 p.m. Saturday.
