CEDAR FALLS, Iowa – The Southern Oregon women's wrestling team needed near-perfection from its upperweights and got it in the clutch Friday to advance to the semifinal round of the NWCA-NAIA National Dual Championships at the UNI-Dome.

After opening the tournament with a 46-3 thumping of Lourdes (Ohio), The No. 7-ranked Raiders had to rally for a 26-17 quarterfinal win over No. 3 Cumberlands (Ky.). A Patriot pin put them behind 16-15 with three matches left when the comeback began.

It started with SOU's biggest upset of the day: No. 16 Quilaztli Miguel-Lapham's 3-2 decision over No. 4 Micah Fisher in the 160-pound match. Another followed at 180, where No. 6 Bailey Dennis notched a 7-0 win against No. 3 Saiheron Preciado-Meza. That decision left the Raiders up by four points, and they sealed the victory when No. 4 Kat Hingano defeated a third consecutive top-10 foe, No. 9 Maquoia Bernabe, by first-round fall in the 207-pound finale.

The Raiders (4-0 overall) clinched a top-four finish a year after settling for fifth at the tournament. They'll go for their second dual title in three seasons on Saturday, facing No. 2 Grand View (Iowa) in the semifinals at 8:30 a.m. PST. No. 1 Life (Ga.) faces No. 4 Providence (Mont.) in the other semifinal.

The championship dual is scheduled for 11:30 a.m., and the third-place dual follows at 1 p.m.

SOU was unchallenged by Lourdes in the first round, recording five forfeit victories and pins by Malia Welch (124), Eliza Goodwin (131), Lillian Gradillas-Flores (180) and Hingano (207).

They took the lead early against Cumberlands thanks to No. 5 Emma Baertlein, who evened the score with a technical fall at 110 pounds, and No. 11 Marissa Kurtz, who upset No. 6 Shammika Miranda with a second-round pin at 117. Top-ranked Carolina Moreno (131) later stopped a brief Patriots rally with a first-round fall over No. 17 Annabelle Suto, putting the Raiders up 15-11.

Alivia Ming's pin at 145 gave the lead back to Cumberlands, setting the stage for Miguel-Lapham, Dennis and Hingano.
