ASHLAND – Southern Oregon responded to its first halftime deficit in six weeks with arguably its sharpest half of the season in a 67-55 win against Eastern Oregon on Friday night at Lithia Motors Pavilion.
The No. 4-ranked Raiders (18-0 overall, 12-0 Cascade Conference) kept their record unblemished by shooting 75% after the break to complete a regular-season sweep of the Mountaineers (12-6, 8-5).
Morgan Baird led four Raider starters in double figures with 16 points, five assists, five rebounds and two steals, and
Meghan McIntyre scored 11 of her 14 after SOU ended the first half down 26-22. The senior point guard added four steals and three assists, helping the Raiders force 18 turnovers while keeping EOU at 34% from the field.
The Raiders landed on 50%, converting at least half of their field-goal attempts for the fifth game in a row. They did so once all of last season.
That particular streak was in peril following a shaky start. But they started the third quarter with seven straight points, taking a 46-43 lead into the fourth. There, a jumper from Baird 90 seconds into the period triggered an 11-2 run that stretched their advantage to 11.
The Raiders hit 10-of-12 attempts in the third and 8-of-12 in the fourth.
Bridgette McIntyre supplied 11 points and was perfect on three 3-point attempts.
Emma Schmerbach filled up the box score with 10 points, five rebounds, two blocks and two steals.
EOU leading scorer Kelsie Siegner totaled 18 points but needed 21 shots to do it. She also had seven rebounds, three blocks and three steals. Kaiea Waiwaiole chipped in eight points and five steals, and Brie Holecek scored 11.
SOU's regular-season winning streak that dates back to last season extended to 32 games. The Raiders trailed at halftime in both of their matchups against EOU but have now won five straight in the series since the start of last season.
They're home again at 3 p.m. Saturday to play fourth-place College of Idaho, which lost by 38 on Friday at Oregon Tech.
