Another Dyer double-double helps SOU beat Northwest

ASHLAND – Sophomore forward Bryce Dyer turned in his third consecutive double-double with 16 points, 13 rebounds, four steals and three assists as Southern Oregon completed a Cascade Conference weekend sweep with a 73-55 defeat of Northwest (Wash.) on Saturday at Lithia Motors Pavilion.

A night after hitting more 3-pointers than in any game over the last 25-plus years, SOU's 3-point defense was a major part of the story. The Raiders (8-5 overall, 3-4 CCC) – who are surrendering fewer makes and attempts beyond the arc than any CCC team – kept the Eagles (2-11, 1-6) at 4-of-20 marksmanship to post a 21-point advantage outside.

Elijah Jackson knocked down four 3s for the second night in a row, recording 15 points and four assists. Mason Whittaker hit three more to score 11, and Gabe Reichle went for eight points and four assists off the bench with a pair of second-half triples.

Dyer, a 6-foot-5 North Medford High product, has accumulated 41 rebounds over his last three outings and gone for at least 10 on six occasions. The double-double was his fifth, and he reached a career-high scoring total by tacking on 10 after halftime. He leads the conference at 10.3 boards per game in CCC play.

An early 10-0 spurt, capped by 3s from Whittaker and Reichle, gave the Raiders an 18-7 lead nine minutes in. They ran off nine unanswered points later in the half to go up by 18.

The Eagles, who were led by Nash Wobrock's 14 points, never got the lead under 10 in the second half, where they committed 10 of their 18 turnovers. The Raiders posted a 27-12 advantage in points off turnovers.

Jack Chlumak contributed five points and three assists off the bench. Joe Juhala, another reserve, had five boards, three assists and a steal.

Dating back to last season, the Raiders have won 10 of their last 11 games at home.

They're back on the road next weekend, visiting Multnomah and Warner Pacific in Portland.
