TOURNAMENT CENTRAL
McMINNVILLE – Redshirt-freshman 124-pounder
Myia Weiler captured her first tournament title on Sunday at Linfield's Mat Cat Open, leading a group of seven Raider backups who made the trip.
SOU had a trio of third-place finishers in
Sophie Keefer (138 pounds),
Kiana Patrick (145) and
Emily Bellant (180).
Nevaeh Arthun (131) and
Maisie Bandel-Ramirez (138) placed fourth and
Vida Boskovic (160) was sixth.
Weiler, in a 124 round-robin, won by decision and injury default before defeating Eastern Oregon's Brooklyn Jones with a first-round pin in her final match.
Patrick went 4-1 with four pins, needing 1:24 to defeat Sarrell Lee of Evergreen (Wash.) in her third-place match. Keefer, who went 3-2, also got each of her wins by fall. Bellant went 2-3 with a pin and a technical fall.
The Raiders will take their starters to the NWCA National Duals on Friday and Saturday in Cedar Falls, Iowa. The bracket will be released later this week.
