Raiders bounce back against Providence

ASHLAND –  Irwin Leon scored the go-ahead goal and assisted two more as Southern Oregon defeated Providence (Mont.), 4-1, to improve to 9-2-1 overall and 4-2 in the Cascade Conference on Saturday at Raider Stadium's Laurel Field.

Leon's goal came in the fourth minute, assisted by Daniel Palomino, and raised his season tally to nine. He sits third on the CCC leaderboard for both goals and points with nine and 21, respectively.

The Raiders pushed their first-half lead to 2-0 in the 25th minute after Leon crossed a long ball from Kaden Barker to Mustafa Daggig, who punched it in for his fourth goal of the year.

Papa Yansane scored his second goal of the season and first at home in the 61st minute, assisted by Leon, and Agustin Gannat scored his first goal in a Raider uniform in the 75th minute, assisted by Daggig and Harry Cullen

Now tied for third in the Cascade Conference circuit with Warner Pacific, SOU hits the road next weekend to play College of Idaho (2-3-2 CCC) and Eastern Oregon (5-0-2).

Providence's goal came in the second half from a Geovanni Lugo header off of Hugo Gil's free kick in the 50th minute. It was the only shot on goal the Raider backline allowed despite missing two All-Conference center-backs in Tristan Skerritt and Josue Ghiessy Biveghe.

The Argos fell to 3-7-2 overall and 3-4-1 in the Cascade Conference.
