Mountaineers finish 2nd-half PKs to stop SOU's streak

LA GRANDE – Eastern Oregon's Peyton Jacaway put away two second-half penalty kicks to stop Southern Oregon's unbeaten streak in a 2-1 Cascade Conference victory on Saturday evening at Community Stadium.

SOU was whistled for fouls in the box in the 65th and 78th minutes, and Jacaway took advantage of both opportunities with her fourth and fifth goals of the season.

The Raiders' first loss since Sept. 5 put them at 9-2-1 overall and 6-1-1 in the CCC. EOU improved to 10-4-1 and 7-2-0.

Less than 24 hours removed from Friday's upset of No. 4-ranked College of Idaho – which ended the Yotes' CCC winning streak at 32 games – SOU went ahead in the 15th minute when Miller Bertani headed in a Macie Yannoni corner kick. The Mountaineers tightened up their defense from there, allowing only five total shots.

The goal was the first of the season for Bertani, a senior defender. Yannoni's assist was her fourth.

With four regular-season games remaining, the Raiders are five points behind first-place College of Idaho and two back of EOU but with a game in hand over both.

They return home next weekend to face Corban on Friday and Bushnell on Saturday. Both games start at noon.
