ASHLAND –
Brooklyn Hayes sparked yet another offensive outburst for the Southern Oregon women's soccer team in a 7-0 Cascade Conference win over Corban on Friday afternoon at Raider Stadium's Laurel Field.
Hayes scored four goals – one shy of the school record that her teammate,
Abby McKean, matched in the SOU's most recent home outing – as the Raiders (10-2-1 overall, 7-1-1 CCC) hit the 10-win mark faster than any team in program history.
The junior attacker tallied in the 14th, 20th, 48th and 51st minutes, accounting for all of SOU's offense before
Carter O'Shea,
Frida Vargas and
Miller Bertani tacked on in succession. O'Shea, Vargas and
Abby McKean also had two assists apiece, while
Sierra Betzler and
Emily Hyde were both credited with one.
In five conference home games, the Raiders have outscored opponents 26-3 combined. They moved into second place on the CCC table – one point ahead of third-place Eastern Oregon and two behind first-place College of Idaho.
Hayes became the fourth Raider ever to accumulate four goals in a game. Her career-best day gave her 10 goals on the season, a number no Raider had reached since 2016. In conference play, she now leads all CCC players in goals (9) and points (21).
The Raiders mounted advantages of 35-3 in shots and 20-1 in shots on goals over Corban (5-9-0, 2-7-0). The shutout was their fourth in the last six games.
Vargas brought her season totals to six points and seven assists. Both of her assists were corner kicks to Hayes, and she headed in a pretty pass from McKean in the 64th minute. She moved into the No. 4 spot on SOU's single-season assists list.
SOU is home for the last time in the regular season at noon Saturday to face fourth-place Bushnell. Admission will be free for all fans.
