ASHLAND – Southern Oregon and Corban traded late jabs and walked away with a point apiece in a 2-2 Cascade Conference draw on Friday afternoon at Raider Stadium's Laurel Field.
With the score tied in the 84th minute,
Daniel Palomino centered his corner kick to
Agustin Gannat for a nine-yard header that put the Raiders in front. The Warriors matched that set piece with one of their own, equalizing less than a minute later when Nathan Martinez took a free kick from the short corner and Josiah Solorzano headed it home.
The teams tied for the second year in a row, making SOU 9-3-3 overall and 4-3-2 in the CCC and Corban 4-8-3 and 2-4-3.
They were scoreless until the Raiders'
Jayden Cameron slotted a 20-yard strike from the left side off a deflection in the 54th minute. The Warriors responded in the 72nd with an Aaron James header via Damian Duenas' arching pass into the box.
The result ended SOU's home winning streak, which dated back to last season, at seven games. Already down their top two scorers due to injury and another starter due to red-card suspension, the Raiders lost their third-leading scorer,
Mustafa Daggig, when he limped off early in the first half.
They still managed a 24-13 advantage in total shots. Corban keeper Isaac Pureco impressed with 10 saves and SOU keeper
Casey Ruvolo made five.
With three games left in the regular season, the Raiders stand in fifth place.
They're home for the last time at 2:30 p.m. Saturday to face eighth-place Bushnell.
