ASHLAND – The best season in Bushnell men's soccer history hit another high point at Southern Oregon's expense on Saturday with a 1-0 Beacons win at Raider Stadium's Laurel Field.
A counter-attack in the 55th minute was the difference, and Giovanni Agogliati was at the end of it with a sliding goal set up by Caleb Premo's cross into the box from the right side. It was one of two on-target shots Bushnell mustered all afternoon on the rain-drenched turf.
The Beacons bumped their record to 10-4-3 overall and 4-4-2 in the Cascade Conference, both hitting the 10-win mark and defeating SOU (9-4-3, 4-4-2) for the first time ever. They forced a three-way tie for sixth place in the standings between themselves, SOU and Oregon Tech.
Agogliati's goal was his sixth of the season. William Haberfield finished Bushnell's eighth shutout with three saves.
The Raiders' scoring struggles continued despite getting off 11 more shots (14) than Bushnell (3). They've been blanked in three of their last four outings.
They nearly equalized with under two minutes remaining when
Daniel Palomino's free kick nicked the crossbar and flew high.
SOU finished the regular season next week at Warner Pacific and Walla Walla (Wash.). The Beacons will host Carroll (Mont.) and Rocky Mountain (Mont.).
