Raiders down Warner Pac 2-0 for 12th win

PORTLAND – The Southern Oregon women's soccer team kept its Cascade Conference title hopes alive entering the final game of the regular season with a 2-0 defeat of Warner Pacific on Friday afternoon at the Eastside Timbers Sports Complex.

The Raiders improved to 12-2-1 overall and 9-1-1 in the CCC, winning for the eighth time in their last nine games. They took control for good in the 20th minute on a sliding shot by Abby McKean, who was on the receiving end of a long pass skipped through the defense by Tori Lasch.

Frida Vargas gave them a two-goal cushion in the 79th by bending her corner kick off of keeper Kate Pomerinke's hands and in.

The Knights (3-11-2, 2-8-1) only got off five shots in SOU's ninth shutout. Raider keeper Brittany Standley made three saves.

It was the 10th time this season that the Raiders have won by multiple goals. They're one victory away from matching the program's single-season wins record, established in 2016 when they last captured the CCC championship.

McKean's goal was her ninth of the season, off of Lasch's second assist. Vargas' second-half goal upped her tally to seven.

The Raiders remain two points behind first-place College of Idaho, which was a 4-1 winner at Evergreen (Wash.) on Friday and rounds out its CCC schedule Saturday at Northwest (Wash.). The Raiders play their regular-season finale 10:30 a.m. Sunday at last-place Walla Walla (Wash.).
