COLLEGE PLACE, Wash.
Abby McKean logged her second hat trick as Southern Oregon locked up the Cascade Conference's No. 2 seed with a 7-0 blowout of Walla Walla (Wash.) in the regular-season finale Sunday at Wolves Field.

At 13-2-1 overall, the Raiders accumulated their highest win total ever in a regular season. They'd never previously entered a postseason with fewer than four losses.

They finished at 10-1-1 in conference play, two points behind College of Idaho and one ahead of third-place Eastern Oregon. They were out of championship contention when the day began: C of I locked it up on Saturday night with a 1-0 defeat of Northwest (Wash.), finding the game-winner in the 86th minute.

The win against WWU (0-12-0, 0-12-0), however, gave the Raiders their third top-two finish in the last five years after they'd been picked fifth in the CCC preseason poll. On Nov. 8 at Medford's Lithia & Driveway Fields, they'll start the CCC Championships presented by U.S. Bank with a 10 a.m. quarterfinal game against Northwest, the No. 7 seed. The teams tied their regular-season game in Ashland, 1-1.

McKean – who three weeks ago tied the SOU single-game record with five goals against Providence – became the first Raider since Katie Emerson in 2003 with multiple hat tricks in the same season. She shot to No. 3 on SOU's single-season goals list by bringing her total to 12.

The Raiders also got a two-goal performance from Frida Vargas, who completed the regular season with nine goals and eight assists. Emily Hyde and Tory Lasch scored the others.

Hyde, Kaylah BreseeCarter O'Shea were credited with an assist apiece.

The Raiders put 23 shots on target and had a four-goal lead 31 minutes into the afternoon.

All told in conference play, they outscored their opponents 45-7 compared to 19-13 a season ago.
