HELENA, Mont. – The second half was all Southern Oregon's again on Saturday, and the Raiders should officially have the rest of the Cascade Conference's attention after staying hot with a 2-0 defeat of Carroll (Mont.) at Nelson Stadium.
Kaylah Bresee broke a scoreless tie in the 56th minute and
Brooklyn Hayes struck in the 63rd as SOU took six points home from its first CCC road trip, improving to 7-1-1 overall and 4-0-1 in the conference.
The Raiders have scored 10 goals during their three-game winning streak – nine of them after halftime. They're unbeaten through five CCC games for just the second time and off to the best nine-game start in team history.
The shutout was their fifth of the season and second in a row, made possible by
Brittany Standley's five saves and a back line that limited the Saints (3-2-4, 1-2-2) to nine total shots.
One of those defenders, Bresee, tallied for the fourth consecutive game by maneuvering through the Saints and settling into a 25-yard shot that she placed over keeper Allison Olson's outstretched arms for her first game-winning goal.
Hayes later scored for the third game in a row, heading a straight-on, 10-yard dart into the net off of
Macie Yannoni's corner kick. The goal was her fifth of the year.
The Raiders are 5-0-2 in their last seven matchups with Carroll. Prior to the stretch, they'd been 1-7-1 in the all-time series.
They're alone in second place, two points behind No. 5-ranked College of Idaho, entering next Saturday's noon home game against Providence (Mont.). The Argos ended the weekend at 4-2 in the CCC.
