ASHLAND – Ten student-athletes from the Southern Oregon University soccer teams have been named Academic All-District performers, the College Sports Communicators announced.
For the second year in a row, the Raider women's soccer team hit the maximum with six selections:
Miller Bertani,
Sierra Betzler,
Emily Hyde,
Carter O'Shea,
Payton Puppe-Wotipka and
Frida Vargas.
The Raider men's team was represented by
Kaden Barker,
Daniel Palomino,
Casey Ruvolo and
Tristan Skerritt.
The award is designed to recognize student-athletes for a combination of their performances on the field and in the classroom. To become eligible, an individual must be at least a sophomore with a minimum GPA of 3.5 and participate in at least 90% of their team's games or start two-thirds of them.
Among SOU's honorees were seven players who have previously received All-Cascade Conference recognition. All are now eligible to be considered for the Academic All-America team, which Ruvolo landed on last year.
The Raider women capped one of the best seasons in team history in the second round of the NAIA Tournament, finishing 14-3-3. The Raider men went 10-5-4, accumulating double-digit wins for the 10th consecutive full season.
