TOURNAMENT CENTRAL

NAPERVILLE, Ill. – Kat Hingano was Southern Oregon's top 'A' division placer in fourth and Myia Weiler left with a 'B' division title for the No. 11-ranked Raiders on Sunday at the 35-team North Central Invitational.

Hingano, the NAIA's No. 3-ranked 180-pounder, used two pins to reach the semifinals before dropping a one-point decision. She went 3-2 on the day, reaching her placing match with a 9-8 win over Menlo's Kalila Shrive.

SOU's three other placers competed in 'B' divisions, led by Weiler at 124 pounds. The sophomore from Pleasant Hill, Calif., notched three consecutive technical falls and took a 6-1 decision from Hannah Henderson of the Oklahoma State Club team in her final. She outscored her four opponents 40-5 combined.

Caroline Farris placed third at 117 pounds and Sabrina Sifuentez was fifth at 138. Farris, after losing her opener, won four decisions in a row, capping her run with a 7-0 shutout of East Stroudsburg's Isabella Washington-Vasquez. Sifuentez reached the semifinals with back-to-back wins and recovered from a pair of losses with a 3-2 decision over Quincy's Florida Niyokusenga in her placing match.

Two more of SOU's 'A' division competitors, Makayla Correa (138) and Lia Ferreira (103), had notable outings. Ranked No. 20 in the NAIA, Correa went 4-2 with two pins and two technical falls and reached a consolation championship match. The No. 16-ranked Ferreira went 3-2 and collected each of her victories by technical fall, falling a win short of the consolation finals.

The Raiders are off until Jan. 4, when they'll travel to McMinnville for Linfield's Mat Cat Open. On Jan. 9-10, they'll be in Cedar Falls, Iowa, for the NWCA National Duals.
